Typical Brittany TownBrittany Towns  Brittany must surely be characterised by its quaint seaside towns and fishing villages which are credit enough to the area, but more than this, it is blessed with such fantastic jewels as St Malo with its splendid walled old town; Lorient with it's fishing port, beach and Celtic music festival; and Rennes, the regions capital with its huge Saturday market.  St Malo is our personal favourite.

Josselin:

Location: Josselin is 80km west of Rennes via the N24.
General Info: Tourist office website.  Tel no: 02 97 22 36 43.

Description: Josselin is a beautiful medieval town set on the river Oust, boasting a delightful château coupled with an excellent town square that offers many restaurants and cafes overlooking the Basilica de Notre Dame du Roncier.

Our recommendations: This place is well worth a special visit.  Plan to spend a day here taking in the atmosphere in one of the cafes in the town square.  If you can, visit in the middle of July for the medieval festival.
For the children: The Nantes to Brest canal runs through the town and is ideal for cycling along the towpath.  The Lac du Duc near Ploermel offers swimming with a man made beach and watersports.
