Description:
Capital of Quercy, a nice old town with quaint
shopping streets and an impressive cathedral. Look out for the 14th
century Pont Valentré (left), a world famous medieval bridge spanning the Lot.
Our
recommendations: Cahors is famous for its wine – follow the D8 to the west, on the south side of the
river to find splendid vineyards offering dégustation. See our
wine section for more information on wines in the
South West. The Cahors market each Saturday is one of the largest
in the region. Follow the road up the hill behind Cahors in the
direction of Mont St Cyr where there is a public park with outstanding
views overlooking the town and river.
For the
children: Look out for the tourist train for a fun and easy tour of
the town. Better still, take the train from Cahors along the valley to
St Cirq-Lapopie. The railway winds its way along the sides of the river
and offers wonderful views |
