Description: This is
one of the show caves of France. It was discovered in 1897 by a
shepherd, Louis Armand. The visit starts with a ride in a funicular
railway taking visitors 100m underground to a cavern large enough to
accommodate the Cathédrale de Notre Dame in Paris. 400 spectacular
stalagmites create a ‘forest’ of shapes including the tallest stalagmite
in the world at 30m. The whole display using a light show is amazing.
Our recommendations:
Bring a jumper as temperatures are cooler underground and perhaps
combine with a visit to the Montpellier-le-Vieux, situated a car ride to
the west (a combined ticket is available).
For Children:
They should enjoy the funicular ride and show, although the commentary
may be in French. |
