Lac Pavin in the Parc Regional des Volcans d'AuvergneBest Attractions in the Massif Central  The Massif Central is best explored by those who love the great outdoors with excellent walking in the summer months and the closest skiing to Paris in the winter months.  All the major attractions in the area take advantage of the geology of the area, for example with many canoeing centres, underground caves to explore and centres such as Vulcania which are built around the theme of the volcanic past of the region.

Saint-Nectaire Aventures

Location: Take exit 6 from the A75 outside Clermont Ferrand and follow the D978 to Champeix, after Champeix take the D996 to Saint-Nectaire.  The entrance is at the Office du Tourisme.

General Info:  www.stn-aventures.com.  Tel: 04 73 88 40 00.

Description: An interesting variation on the increasingly popular concept of tree top activity centres which also offers Via Ferratas (rock climbing with the aid of pre-installed iron walkways and hand holds).

Our recommendations: This is an excellent attraction covering a large area and is very popular.  So get there early or phone ahead to make a reservation if possible.

For the children: Children as young as 4 years old can be accommodated of course providing they are accommodated by an adult.  Your older children (above say about 8) will have a fantastic time!
