Normandy Attractions  For family holidays Normandy is an excellent choice with attractions to keep everyone happy, from outdoor activity centres to zoos, museums, a small theme park and miles of sandy beaches. For those interested in history the region is full of museums dedicated to Roman History, the Norman Conquest and the Second World War - especially D Day.  And in the heart of Normandy you will find wonderful rolling countryside, gardens and châteaux. Worthy of a trip are Le Mont St-Michel just over the departmental border in Brittany, the Palace de Versailles west of Paris and even Paris itself.

Vélo rail cycling at Etretat

Location: Between  and Etretat at Les Loges on D940.
General Info: Open from April through to early Nov. Phone to book on 0(2) 35 29 49 61 Four people pay €23 for the combined vélo/train journey and €25 for the pleasure of vélo both ways!  For more info check their website.
Description: It’s quite simple really - ‘ride’ or ‘cycle’ an oversized bike for up to 4 people (2 in the front and 2 behind) along a disused railway line on the downhill (outward bound) route and return to your starting point by train.
Our Recommendations: Try doing both ways by ‘vélo’. The downhill route takes about 20-30 mins with the return a little bit longer as there is a slight uphill gradient. Allow 45 mins. Alternatively you can do the journey both ways by train – but where is the fun in that?!!  For more info on conventional cycling in Normandy check here.
For the Children: This is something that is fun and completely different to do as a family - regardless of age.
NOTE: If this idea appeals then you can find over 30 more Vélorails around France with 15 additional projects in the pipeline. Check out www.velorailsdefrance.com
